Opportunity

Are you ready to power the next generation of underwater technology? A confidential employer is seeking a talented Power Electronics Engineer to drive the design and development of advanced maritime systems. Based in the historic and innovative hub of Concord, Massachusetts – with an option for Groton, Connecticut – this role puts you at the forefront of prototype R&D that directly impacts national security and scientific exploration.

Your work will involve designing high voltage and high power electrical components for underwater vehicles, acoustic communication systems, and high-power transmit arrays. You’ll take complex systems from concept to reality, tackling challenges like DC/DC converters, power amplifiers, and energy storage for harsh environments. Everything you build will support missions where reliability and innovation are mission-critical.

This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with a solid foundation in power systems design and a proven track record of bringing high-power electronics to life. You have at least a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, hands-on experience with circuit analysis and PCB design, and a knack for troubleshooting. If you thrive in a small, agile team where your ideas shape real products, you’ll feel right at home. Additional skills in underwater systems, electric machines, or embedded coding will help you stand out.

The employer rewards technical excellence and offers full relocation, giving you a clear path to relocate and make a lasting impact. Here, you won’t be a cog in a machine – you’ll be a key player on a team that values creativity and collaboration. If you’re ready to apply your power electronics expertise to technologies that operate beneath the waves, apply today and let’s talk about how you can power the future.

Non-Negotiables

  • A B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a focus in power systems is required
  • You must have a proven track record of designing, implementing, and testing high voltage/high power electrical components
  • Experience designing energy storage system components, DC/DC converters, power amplifiers, and magnetics is essential
  • You should have hands-on experience with circuit analysis, simulation, schematic capture, PCB design, and verification testing
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electronic power devices including MOSFETs, Schottky Diodes, SiC FETs, and IGBTs is expected
  • The ability to troubleshoot electronic systems is a must
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or clearable for security purposes

What's In It For You

  • Full relocation assistance is provided to bring you to the team’s location
  • You will work on exciting, technically challenging projects that drive innovation in underwater systems
  • The small company environment rewards technical excellence and encourages an entrepreneurial mindset
  • You will have direct collaboration with colleagues and customers who value creativity
  • Opportunities for growth and learning across multidisciplinary fields are abundant
  • Travel support for on-site testing provides hands-on experience in real-world environments
  • The role offers the chance to work with cutting-edge technology in a niche industry

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate complex power electronics systems for underwater maritime applications
  • Debug and test high-power electrical components to ensure reliable system performance
  • Support on-site testing activities, requiring travel up to 25% of the time
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on prototype R&D systems
  • Design DC/DC and AC/DC power systems ranging from 500W to 50kW for harsh environments
  • Implement high availability power supplies and failover systems for mission-critical applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience designing electronics for underwater maritime systems is a plus
  • Experience with electric machines and drives design is highly valued
  • Familiarity with power converter topologies and their control methodologies is beneficial
  • Experience overseeing electronic layout, bill-of-materials, and assembly processes is desirable
  • Background in an R&D environment and small multidisciplinary teams is an advantage
  • The ability to mentor junior EE staff on electronics design and troubleshooting is welcomed
  • Familiarity with C/C++ or Python coding for microcontrollers is a plus
