Ready to take the next step in your legal career?

Have you spent several years as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, or Legal Secretary and found yourself taking on more responsibility beyond supporting attorneys? Have you helped manage other legal professionals, coordinate workloads, train new employees, or keep a practice group running smoothly?

If so, this could be an opportunity to take your experience in a new direction.

A respected west Houston law firm is seeking a Legal Support & Operations Coordinator to help oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of its legal support team. Working closely with the Director of Legal Operations, this individual will play an important role in managing workflows, coordinating staffing, supporting employee development, and ensuring the firm's legal support professionals have the resources and direction they need to be successful.

This is an opportunity to leverage your understanding of how a law firm operates while moving into a broader leadership and operational role. Rather than spending your day focused on supporting individual attorneys, you'll help coordinate the people, processes, and resources that keep the legal support department running effectively.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Team Coordination & Support: Help oversee the day-to-day activities of the legal support team, coordinate assignments, balance workloads, and ensure appropriate staffing and coverage.
  • Staffing & Scheduling: Assist with scheduling, PTO coordination, workload distribution, and coverage planning to keep departmental operations running smoothly.
  • Employee Onboarding & Training: Coordinate onboarding and offboarding for legal support personnel, assist with training schedules, and ensure new team members have the guidance and resources they need.
  • Workflow Management: Monitor departmental workflows, identify potential bottlenecks, address day-to-day operational challenges, and bring issues to the attention of the Director of Legal Operations.
  • Departmental Administration: Maintain operational trackers, calendars, reports, procedures, and other departmental documentation.
  • Process Improvement: Work with legal operations leadership to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and enhance the support provided to attorneys.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between legal support professionals, attorneys, Human Resources, firm leadership, and other departments.
  • Special Projects: Assist with departmental initiatives, operational projects, and other responsibilities that contribute to the overall success of the firm.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 3 years of experience working in a law firm.
  • Previous experience as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, Legal Secretary, Practice Assistant, or similar legal support professional.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, training, or coordinating the work of other legal support professionals.
  • An understanding of law firm workflows, attorney support needs, and the importance of effective staffing and workload management.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with attorneys, support staff, and firm leadership.
  • Experience handling confidential personnel matters and sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with legal technology, document management, case management, or billing systems.
  • College degree preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Compensation & Benefits

Our client offers competitive compensation based on experience and a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • 401(k) with a 5% company match.
  • Paid parking or public transportation subsidy.
  • Three weeks of paid vacation annually, increasing with tenure, plus 10 paid holidays.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of employee premiums paid by the company.
