Sales & Use Tax Manager
CooperDouglas is partnering with a $10B public company in hiring their next Sales and Use Tax Manager. In this role, you will manage large corporate sales and use tax obligations and assist with managing tax impacts to the company. You will contribute to designing fit for the future tax processes, be a change agent in our finance transformation, help solve business challenges related to business structuring, implement adoption of new tax laws, and communicate tax developments.
The Sales and Use Tax Manager owns the sales and use tax filing processes and procedures for all divisions. They will develop practices and procedures to ensure filing of accurate and timely state and local sales tax returns, as well as collaborate with the accounting department to improve the quality of data on which decisions are made and support business units in their growth and development.
Essential Duties:
- Drive timely and accurate month-end close process (5-day window)
- Supervise a team of Sales and Use Tax Accountants
- Configure, support and provide ongoing maintenance of Avalara tax engine
- Management responsibilities for the day-to-day Sales Tax activities
- Self-assess current processes to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiencies as well as drive the change
- Provide team training as needed to mentor direct reports to operate at higher levels ensuring their success for promotions
- Develop relationships with internal customers and provide technical expertise
- Research complex sales tax issues
- Tax correspondence and assist with sales and use tax audits
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- CPA license
- 6+ years of related experience, 4+ years in a supervisory/management role preferred
- Experience with Avalara is required
- Strong understanding of common sales tax issues.
- Ability to work in a deadline driven environment

- Strong people skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Strong oral and written communication skills to articulate key information
- Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work in order to meet deadlines.
