We are currently conducting a Controller search for a Commercial General Contractor based in Tempe, AZ. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will oversee a small accounting team and be responsible for core accounting operations including month-end close, job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting. The Controller will also play a key role in financial planning, performance analysis, and an upcoming ERP system conversion.
This is an in-office role, 5 days a week at their office in Tempe, Arizona.

- Oversee month-end close, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and overall accounting operations.
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and profitability analysis.
- Manage job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project profitability tracking.
- Monitor financial performance metrics and maintain target profit margins.
- Develop and manage cash flow planning and capital strategies to support company growth.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls and financial risk management processes.
- Partner with operational leaders to ensure project-level financial accountability.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies through financial analysis.
- Lead ERP implementation and optimize financial systems, automation, and reporting capabilities.
- Oversee payroll administration and performance-based compensation structures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related is required
- CPA a plus
- 7+ years’ of accounting/finance experience
- 3+ years’ commercial real estate construction accounting experience (including job costing, WIP reporting, etc.), ideally working for a General Contractor.
- 2+ years’ of leadership experience
- Experience implementing process improvement
