Currently seeking a Financial Cost Analyst with Metal/Manufacturing experience for a client in Markle, IN. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with and presenting large volumes of data — uses/willing to leverage Power BI or AI tools — and will thrive in a fast-paced, growing, and dynamic startup environment. This individual must be able to embrace responsibility, take ownership of new initiatives, and adapt to frequent changes and evolving processes. Strong attention to detail and self-sufficiency are essential. Experience in the metals industry is highly desired. This position will work in both the offices and in the plant.
Financial Cost Analyst Responsibilities:
- Analyze inventory movement including job costs review, purchase price variance (PPV), and annual physical inventory to ensure accuracy and adherence to accounting standards
- Develop and maintain inventory cost models and ensure consistency across all inventory-related activities
- Work to ensure smooth and accurate flow of inventory and related transactions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate, reconcile, and investigate physical inventory counts and variances with financial records
- Perform all cost accounting activities including standard cost, inventory valuation, cost of goods sold, product profitability and cost ratio analysis, variance analysis, and calculation of production costs
- Prepare cost allocation assumptions and rates
- Ensure relevant costs including freight and storage are properly factored into sales pricing and margins
- Ensure proper valuation of inventory and Cost of Goods Sold through proper allocation of labor and overhead to maintain integrity of systems inventory costs
- Support management in reporting Cost of Goods Sold and gross margins by product, customer, and location across business units
- Perform daily general accounting activities such as GL analysis, ad hoc reporting, journal entries, fixed assets, and related tasks
- Review financial statements for discrepancies and other issues requiring management attention
- Assist with monthly GL account reconciliations
- Assist in the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing journal entries and reconciliations
- Assist with the development and reporting of KPIs
- Support implementation of Continuous Improvement initiatives related to inventory management and the Accounting & Finance department
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Assist with developing and implementing corporate policies, processes, and procedures
- Assist in other areas and perform special projects and other duties as assigned by management
Financial Cost Analyst Profile:
- BS/BA in Finance or Accounting required
- Manufacturing experience required
- Experience in the metals or scrap industry highly desired
- Experience working with large datasets
- Familiarity with Power BI or AI-based analytical tools
- Sound knowledge of US GAAP and cost accounting principles
- Strong mathematical, accounting, finance, and analytical skills with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in ERP and inventory software; NetSuite experience preferred
- Experience in a startup or high-growth company environment a plus
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Self-sufficient and capable of taking ownership of new initiatives with minimal oversight
