Senior Designer & Project Manager
Senior Designer & Project Manager
Bozeman, Montana | Full-Time In Person | $120,000 – $140,000/yr + Benefits
About the Role
Big Sky Staffing and Recruiting has partnered with Homestead Woods, a custom cabinetry design studio with more than 25 years of craftsmanship and client-centered design in the Bozeman area. We are recruiting for a Senior Designer & Project Manager who wants more than a job title.
This is a leadership track opportunity for someone ready to own full-cycle residential and commercial projects, mentor a growing design team, shape studio systems, and follow a clear path toward Principal or Studio Director. If you thrive at the intersection of beautiful design and operational excellence — and you lead with ownership, not ego — we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Project Leadership
• Lead full-cycle residential and light commercial cabinetry and design projects, from concept through installation
• Own project schedules, budgets, scopes, and client communication across all phases
• Identify risks early and resolve them before they impact clients or timelines
• Coordinate with production teams, vendors, contractors, and trades with precision
Design Excellence
• Lead design direction, concept development, and client presentations on high-end projects
• Produce sophisticated space planning, cabinetry detailing, and material selections
• Review and elevate the work of junior designers, maintaining quality standards
• Protect and evolve the studio's design identity and brand
Team Mentorship & Leadership
• Coach and develop junior designers through structured feedback and day-to-day collaboration
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and genuine teamwork
• Support onboarding, knowledge-sharing, and professional development across the studio
Operations & Systems
• Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions
• Strengthen documentation standards, quality control processes, and project visibility
• Partner with studio leadership on strategic planning, hiring, and long-term growth
What We're Looking For
• 7–12+ years of experience in custom cabinetry or a design-build environment using AutoCAD
• Proven success leading complex, full-lifecycle residential or commercial design projects
• Strong technical skills — space planning, cabinetry detailing, specifications, FF&E packages
• Exceptional organizational ability with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
• High emotional intelligence and calm, clear communication under pressure
• A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset — you bring solutions, not just problems
• A genuine passion for developing others and contributing to a team's long-term growth
• Comfort in a studio culture that values authenticity and connection as much as polish
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive package designed to attract exceptional talent and reward long-term commitment:
• Base salary: $120,000 – $140,000 depending on experience
• Annual merit review tied to performance — not just tenure
• Medical insurance (company pays 50% of monthly premium after 90 days)
• Supplemental dental insurance through Aflac (100% company paid after 60 days)
• Health Savings Account (HSA) with 50% company match on contributions
• 401(k) with up to 3.5% company match, plus potential profit-sharing
• Short-term and long-term disability coverage through Northwestern Mutual
• $100,000 life insurance and AD&D coverage
• Paid vacation: 10 days (up to 20 with tenure), plus 9+ company holidays
• $50/month wellness reimbursement (gym, yoga, massage, ski pass, and more)
• Company cell phone provided
• Clear leadership advancement path toward Principal / Studio Director
• Company vehicle for use when traveling to jobsites or performing job-related errands
Why Homestead Woods
We are not a rigid, corporate design firm. We are a studio that cares deeply about the craft, the client, and the people doing the work. Our culture is built on five core values:
• Growth — We invest in personal and professional development. We want our team to be better today than yesterday.
• Curiosity — We never stop seeking creative ways to solve hard problems.
• Authenticity — We show up for each other with empathy and humility.
• Service — We put the homeowner at the center of everything we do and aim to surpass expectations every time.
• Fun & Fulfillment — This is a calling, not just a career. We support the whole person.
This is not a role for someone who wants to clock in, execute tasks, and clock out. It is for someone who wants to build something — and be part of a team that genuinely enjoys doing it.
