Position Summary:

In a glass manufacturing plant that runs 24/7, a Mechanical Engineer designs, installs, and provides support to the plant’s facilities, equipment, and production processes, and leads continuous improvement in the areas of quality, safety, reliability, and yield.

The ME needs to demonstrate a solid work ethic through diligent effort, availability, physical involvement, good decision-making, effective troubleshooting, and completing projects that improve the facility.

The ME functions as a member of the Engineering Department and works collaboratively with maintenance and production. The ME completes additional duties as requested by managers and others within the plant and may assist other plants.

Job Responsibilities include the following:

Support a 24/7 manufacturing process

· Have a working knowledge of the equipment and processes in the plant. Stay abreast of equipment changes

· Be able to weigh risks and make decisions.

· Have a hands-on approach to supporting plant equipment.

· Be available during nights and weekends.

· Regularly spend time with technicians, listening to concerns, observing operations, and checking data.

Help the Engineering Department to reach Company goals.

Specific goals and objectives will be created by the Engineering Department in areas such as these:

· Reduce costs and be sure equipment is running as efficiently as possible, stay abreast of technology to save costs.

· Improve safety

· Improve yield, including handling systems

· Improve quality, including cutting, inspection systems, and handling systems

· Increase equipment availability.

· Improve equipment reliability.

Plant-wide goals also include these areas:

· Teamwork – employees respect and support each other and function together well. Norms are in place and job rotation occurs as planned. Conflict is handled swiftly and skillfully. Verified by Engagement Survey.

· Employee satisfaction and engagement – low controllable turnover, department/supervision continues to improve, expectations are clear and reinforced. Verified by Engagement Survey results.

· Initiative and Development – Improvement projects identified and completed with employees taking active role; results verify impact. Training in job procedures and cross-training complete; back-ups are in place. Learning events attended; employees take on increasing responsibilities.

· Attendance – absentee and tardy rates

Troubleshoot problems and repair equipment (spontaneous work)

· Daily read FGweb, maintenance and production logs. Investigate details of problems.

· Respond quickly to problems/issues, working closely with technicians, leaders, maintenance and engineering and Tech Group.

Education/knowledge requirements

· 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field. Emphasis in industrial systems, industrial controls, pneumatics, power transmission, linear motion systems, CAD Software, motors, synchronous drives, basic programming on robots, basic industrial electricity.

· Know plant processes and equipment that support operations.

Skills needed

· Organizing and tracking data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions that define problems.

· Reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex engineering documents and OSHA regulations. · Troubleshooting · Project Management · Leadership · MS Office applications: Word, Excel. · CAD software proficiency: AutoCAD and SolidWorks
