Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Buyer to join our team, focusing on the procurement of materials required for capital equipment manufacturing. This role involves comprehensive supplier management, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition of necessary components, with a particular emphasis on stainless steel and other specialized materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers for various materials including stainless steel, machined parts, and electrical components.
  • Issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and analyze responses for total cost, including price, lead time, and terms.
  • Negotiate and secure favorable terms and conditions with suppliers to optimize cost efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Review engineering drawings and bills of materials to ensure supplier quotes align with specifications.
  • Manage long-lead items to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Monitor supply risks and implement recovery plans as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate data within ERP systems related to suppliers, lead times, and part specifications.
  • Ensure all purchased materials meet food-grade and sanitary specifications.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Inventory, Production, Engineering, and Project Management to align procurement strategies with company objectives.
  • Resolve discrepancies related to receiving, non-conforming materials, and invoice mismatches.
  • Track supplier performance and report on key metrics such as on-time delivery and cost variances.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required; a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field is beneficial.
  • 3–5 years of purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in managing purchase orders and supplier relationships via ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials.
  • Proven negotiation skills to influence pricing, lead times, and contractual terms.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Authorized to work in the United States with reliable commute options to Gainesville, GA.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in purchasing for capital equipment manufacturing, especially within food processing industries.
  • Familiarity with sanitary and hygienic design principles relevant to food processing equipment.
  • Experience with international purchasing and understanding of incoterms and customs documentation.
  • Professional certifications such as ASCM/APICS CPIM, CSCP, or ISM CPSM are advantageous.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Office-based with regular exposure to the shop floor.
  • Involves extended periods of computer use and frequent communication with suppliers.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and navigate the production floor as needed.
  • Personal protective equipment is required in production areas.
  • Occasional travel for supplier visits and trade shows.
