Sales & Customer Service Representative
Location: Littleton, MA
Schedule: Full-Time, In-Person
Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire
Compensation: $75,000–$90,000 per year + commission
A Stable Company. A Consultative Role. A Chance to Build Long-Term Customer Relationships.
Our client is an established, family-owned building materials company that has been in business for approximately 30 years. With a highly tenured team and a strong reputation in its market, the company is looking for an experienced Sales & Customer Service Representative to join its Littleton, Massachusetts location.
This is not a high-volume cold-calling position. In fact, approximately 80% of the role is focused on customer service, account support and managing the sales process, with about 20% focused on sales.
The right person will enjoy working directly with customers, learning a specialized product line, solving problems, preparing quotes and estimates, and making sure opportunities never fall through the cracks.
If you are highly organized, naturally responsive, comfortable with a CRM, and enjoy consultative selling rather than aggressive prospecting, this could be an excellent fit.
What You'll Do
You will manage customers and opportunities from their initial inquiry through product selection, quoting, ordering and delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Responding to inquiries from homeowners, architects and contractors
-
Managing inbound phone calls, web leads, web chat inquiries and showroom visitors
-
Consulting with customers to understand their projects and recommend appropriate products
-
Preparing material estimates, quotes and sales orders
-
Calculating product quantities using measurements and square footage
-
Following up consistently on quotes, inquiries and open opportunities
-
Managing multiple customers and projects at different stages of the sales process
-
Maintaining complete and accurate customer information, notes, tasks and next steps in the CRM
-
Re-engaging warm, existing or dormant opportunities when appropriate
-
Developing a strong understanding of stone products, applications, characteristics, grout options, coverage and installation basics
-
Coordinating with production, inventory and shipping to help ensure orders move smoothly through delivery
-
Supporting showroom consultations, samples and product presentations
-
Building long-term relationships with customers and becoming a trusted resource throughout their projects
-
Participating in occasional customer or job-site visits, training or industry events
This Is a Consultative Sale
Customers often need guidance rather than simply someone to take an order.
You'll become knowledgeable about natural stone products and learn how to help customers understand differences in appearance, characteristics, applications, grout selections, quantities and other considerations.
You don't need to walk in as a stone expert. You do need to be curious, willing and able to learn a detailed product line and become confident advising customers.
Some mathematical ability is important because you'll work with measurements, square footage, quantities and material estimates.
Organization & Follow-Up Are Critical
The company's CRM is at the center of its sales process. You'll need to be comfortable using a CRM throughout your day and disciplined about documenting conversations, scheduling follow-ups and keeping opportunities moving.
A great salesperson who doesn't document or follow up consistently will not be successful in this position.
We're looking for someone who can manage a busy desk, prioritize effectively and make sure customers receive the attention they need.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring:
-
5+ years of relevant sales, account management or customer-facing experience preferred
-
Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
-
Experience with consultative sales
-
Excellent organization and attention to detail
-
Exceptional follow-through
-
The ability to manage multiple customers, quotes and priorities simultaneously
-
CRM experience; Zoho CRM experience is a plus
-
Comfort learning and working within established CRM processes
-
Experience preparing estimates, quotes, material orders or takeoffs is helpful
-
Comfort working with basic math, measurements and square-footage calculations
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills
-
The ability to learn technical and product information quickly
-
Confidence communicating with homeowners as well as construction and design professionals
-
Experience with building materials, masonry, landscape products, construction or a related industry is a plus, but not required
-
QuickBooks, Google Workspace and spreadsheet experience is helpful
A bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant industry experience is preferred.
Training & Commission
There is a significant learning component to this position. You'll be trained on the products, customers, systems and complete sales process before being expected to manage opportunities independently.
Once you have demonstrated that you can confidently manage a customer from beginning to end, you will be assigned sales targets and become eligible for commission.
This typically occurs after approximately 90 days, although the training and evaluation period could extend longer depending on the individual's experience and learning curve.
Sales targets are established monthly based on business trends and forecasts, and commission is paid monthly based on sales above established thresholds.
Expected commission opportunity once fully ramped: approximately $15,000–$25,000 annually.
Compensation
Base Salary: $75,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience
Plus Commission: Approximately $15,000–$25,000 annual opportunity once fully trained and eligible
Benefits Upon Hire
The company offers a strong benefits package, including:

-
2.5 weeks during the first year
-

Schedule & Travel
This is a full-time, in-person position in Littleton, MA.
Travel is very limited and may include an occasional customer or job-site visit. There is also an optional annual industry trade show that involves an overnight stay.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a stable, established company where people tend to stay. Several members of the core team have been with the organization for well over a decade.
It's a particularly good fit for someone who enjoys the relationship and problem-solving side of sales: learning what a customer is trying to accomplish, helping them make the right selection, staying on top of the details and seeing the process through from beginning to end.
This position is being offered on a temp-to-hire basis, with the intention of becoming a long-term direct-hire member of the company's team.
I deliberately positioned this as Sales & Customer Service Representative rather than simply Sales Representative. Based on your intake, I think that title will do a better job of attracting candidates who understand that servicing customers, managing details and following through are the heart of the job—not candidates expecting to spend their day hunting for new accounts.
