Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Onsite – Rhinelander, WI)

A leading forestry and heavy‑equipment organization is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join its onsite operations in Rhinelander, WI. This role supports repair, maintenance, and diagnostic work on logging machinery and requires a seasoned technician who excels in hands‑on mechanical troubleshooting and field service work.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, rebuild, and repair heavy logging equipment

• Perform inspections and preventive maintenance on machinery

• Interpret and work from hydraulic and electrical schematics

• Maintain accurate service records, reports, and documentation

• Travel from the Rhinelander site to customer locations for field repairs and technical support

• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area

Required Qualifications

• 8–10 years of experience as a heavy equipment technician, including field service

• Extensive knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, and schematic interpretation

• Two‑year degree in a heavy equipment technician program OR equivalent experience

• Ability to obtain a CDL (or currently holds one)

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Preferred Experience

• Prior hands‑on experience with:

  • Caterpillar

  • John Deere

  • Komatsu

  • Volvo

• Experience with acetylene and electric arc welding

Work Environment

• Onsite role based in Rhinelander, WI

• Frequent exposure to outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts, fumes, and vibration

• Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures

• Loud noise levels typical of heavy equipment environments

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tight spaces throughout the day

• Ability to lift and move 50+ lbs regularly

• Strong vision abilities including depth perception, color vision, and close/distance focus

Schedule

• Full‑time

• Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
