Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Controller to oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable, financial reporting, and audit operations for a large real estate and mortgage services organization.

The ideal candidate must have extensive mortgage servicing accounting experience, strong financial leadership skills, and experience managing complex accounting operations within a large financial services organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Accounting Leadership: Oversee daily accounting operations, payroll, accounts payable, and financial reporting across multiple business entities.

• Financial Reporting: Manage month-end closing, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and financial statements.

• Mortgage Servicing Accounting: Oversee mortgage servicing rights (MSR) valuations and ensure compliance with mortgage servicing accounting standards.

• Audits & Compliance: Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and regulators. Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and mortgage investor reporting requirements.

• Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations, debt reporting, and lender covenant compliance.

• Internal Controls: Develop and maintain accounting policies, financial controls, and fraud prevention procedures.

• Budgeting & Forecasting: Support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis.

• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve reporting accuracy, and strengthen financial systems.

• Team Leadership: Manage, train, mentor, and develop accounting professionals.

• Contract Review: Review financial contracts to determine asset ownership and proper accounting treatment.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

• CPA or equivalent professional certification.

• 15+ years of progressive accounting experience.

• 10+ years in senior accounting leadership within mortgage servicing or related financial services, including Controller-level experience.

• Direct experience with mortgage servicing accounting and mortgage servicing rights (MSR) valuations.

• Experience managing accounting operations within a large or complex financial services organization.

• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial audits, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.

• Familiarity with investor reporting requirements for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae.

• Experience overseeing payroll, accounts payable, cash management, and financial reporting.

• Experience using mortgage servicing platforms and ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Proven experience managing accounting teams and communicating financial results to senior executives.
