Location: San Jose, CA

Salary: $160,000 - $200,000 + Full Benefits + Full Paid Relocation + Bonus

Are you an innovative Opto-Mechanical Engineer eager to shape the future of metrology? We're looking for an experienced professional to join our dynamic R&D team. This is a unique opportunity to research cutting-edge technology, transform visionary concepts into tangible projects, and make critical technical decisions that drive customer success through groundbreaking product development.

In this role, you'll be instrumental in defining, developing, testing, and launching solutions for our next-generation metrology product family. You'll collaborate with a talented team of engineers and technicians, working on complex systems that integrate lasers, polarizing optics, fiber optics, precision mechanics, and electronics. If you have a passion for developing precision instruments that incorporate optics, lasers, or similar components, and are ready to specify manufacturing tools and processes concurrently with product development, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Product Development & Innovation: Help define, develop, test, and launch solutions for our next-generation metrology product family.
  • Technical Research & Strategy: Research new technologies and transform high-level concepts and strategies into structured, actionable projects.
  • Key Decision Making: Make critical technical decisions that directly contribute to customer success through innovative product development.
  • System Integration: Work alongside engineers and technicians on systems that include lasers, polarizing optics, fiber optics, precision mechanics, and electronics.
  • Manufacturing Specification: Specify manufacturing tools and processes in parallel with product development.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a similar technical field.
  • In-depth knowledge of precision mechanical design principles for designing both products and tools.
  • Proven experience taking a concept from prototype to volume production.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following technical areas: kinematic design, optics, adhesives, vacuum, and precision machining.
  • A self-starter who can think and act independently, translating general objectives into tangible results, with a track record of delivering successful designs on schedule.
  • Proficiency in using ME CAD tools for design and FEA for analysis (Siemens NX and ANSYS preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with individuals at all levels.

Other Desirable Skills and Abilities

  • Direct design experience with precision opto-mechanical products such as lasers, interferometers, fiber optics collimators, or optical systems.
  • Familiarity with optical design principles and ray tracing software (Zemax, Fred, or equivalent).
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment and/or precision motion controls.
  • Strong knowledge of and significant prior experience in optics and laser systems.
  • Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a similar technical field.
