Director of Operations

Role Overview We’re searching for a results-driven Director of Operations to lead a major transformation within a fast-paced perishable food distributor. This leadership role is perfect for someone who excels at improving processes, optimizing logistics, and inspiring teams to achieve operational excellence. With direct oversight of transportation, logistics, and warehouse functions, this position offers the chance to make a lasting impact on a business poised for significant growth.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a 40,000 sq. ft. operation, managing two direct reports and a total team of 30 employees across warehousing, logistics, and transportation functions.
  • Improve warehouse processes by enhancing accuracy in receiving, storage, and shipping activities. Focus on optimizing space usage and maintaining precise inventory records.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and bottlenecks. Develop and implement cost-effective solutions to improve workflows and boost productivity.
  • Oversee the customer delivery process to ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and delivered on time across a six-day schedule. Work closely with sales and customer service teams to address any delivery issues promptly.
  • Assist in integrating new business acquisitions and expanding distribution services. Collaborate with leadership to ensure smooth transitions and scalable operations.
  • Oversee daily transportation operations to ensure efficient routing, on-time deliveries, and top driver performance. Implement automated routing tools to streamline route planning and reduce costs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field (preferred) OR equivalent experience of 7+ years in operational leadership within distribution.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in logistics, transportation, or distribution management, with a focus on food distribution or perishable goods.
  • Proven success in leading turnaround efforts and implementing lasting operational improvements.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams, including direct management of department heads.
  • Familiarity with automated routing systems such as Samsara, Omnitracs, or similar tools.
  • Problem-solver with a proactive mindset and the ability to make decisions that drive positive change.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Understanding of food distribution and handling of perishable products is a plus.
