Department Head - Electrical Mission Critical

About our client

Our client is an MEP/FP engineering firm that has designed mission critical facilities for decades. They rank among the larger engineering firms of their kind in the country. Their data center clients include hyperscale operators, developers, and federal agencies, and the work covers AI and cloud deployments for enterprise and colocation facilities. Projects range from fit-ups of existing data halls to buildings over 30 MW and multi-building campuses with their own substations.

The role

The Electrical Department Head runs the electrical department in the Boston office, where the focus is data center work. The role combines managing the department with hands-on design work on the office's largest projects. This person sets the technical direction for electrical design, serves as the senior electrical contact for the office's data center clients, and signs as engineer of record.

Location: Boston, MA. Hybrid, with up to two days a week remote. Relocation is available.

What you would be doing

Department leadership

• Own the department's design guidelines and quality review process
• Mentor and grow the department's engineers and designers
• Review drawings, Revit models, and calculations before issue

Project delivery

• Lead electrical design on large data center projects, from early planning through construction
• Work with owners and the mechanical and civil engineers to integrate power systems into the overall design
• Design to owner standards on hyperscale and colocation programs

Medium voltage and protection

• Design medium voltage distribution up to 35 kV and specify transformers, switchgear, and feeders
• Develop protection and control schemes, including relay settings, relaying diagrams, and control schematics
• Oversee power system studies

What we are looking for

• At least 15 years of electrical design experience, with substantial data center work, including hyperscale or colocation projects
• Licensed Professional Engineer
• Medium voltage distribution and protective relaying experience
• Experience designing redundant power systems for tiered facilities
• Track record leading engineering teams
• Working knowledge of Revit and BIM
• Engineering degree, or equivalent experience
• LEED accreditation a plus
