PROJECT ENGINEER
Water & Wastewater Equipment  |  Boonton, NJ  |  100% Onsite  |  $110K to $120K Base

THE OPPORTUNITY
A privately held northern New Jersey manufacturer of water and wastewater process equipment is adding a Project Engineer.  The company is growing, its order book is full, and it is deliberately building more work in its own fabrication shop instead of subcontracting it out.  This hire adds the capacity to do more of that work well.

This is a project ownership role, not a coordination role.  The engineer takes an order and carries it through to shipment: the schedule, the submittals, the documentation, the customer conversations, and the shop floor.  Time is split between the office, the company's nearby fabrication shop, and the occasional customer site.

WHAT THE ROLE OWNS
- Manage engineered equipment projects from order receipt through shipment, holding schedule and budget.
- Serve as the customer-facing engineer on each project, working directly with consulting engineers, contractors, municipalities, and end users.
- Prepare and manage submittal packages, O&M documentation, project schedules, and internal coordination across sales, engineering, purchasing, and production.
- Work public works requirements: specifications, prevailing wage, compliance, and approvals.
- Coordinate daily with the in-house fabrication shop and outside fabricators on drawings, build sequencing, and equipment inspections.
- Review drawings and designs for fit, function, and manufacturability before they reach the shop.
- Participate in weekly project engineering and fabrication meetings to keep the backlog moving.

REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 4+ years of project engineering experience in manufacturing, water and wastewater, or public works.  This is a mid-level seat, not entry level.
- Hands-on experience owning engineered equipment projects end to end, including fabricated equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort reading and reviewing fabrication drawings.
- Highly organized and able to run several projects at once, with strong written and verbal communication with external stakeholders.
- Local to northern New Jersey and able to work fully onsite.  No relocation assistance.

PREFERRED
- Water and wastewater equipment background.
- Experience with municipalities, utilities, or public works contracts (a major plus).
- PE a big plus but NOT required

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Base salary of $110,000 to $120,000 depending on experience.
- Medical premium paid 100% by the company for individual and family coverage, with no employee contribution on the base plan.  A lower-deductible buy-up plan is available.
- Clear path to Senior Project Engineer, with later routes into design engineering or product development.
- Real project ownership and visibility in a stable, privately held company.
- Short northern NJ commute and minimal travel.
