Overview

Our client, a nationally recognized AmLaw 100 firm with a premier class action practice, is seeking an experienced Senior Associate or Counsel to serve as a dedicated Brief Writer within its Employment Class Action group. This role is ideal for an attorney with deep expertise in sophisticated legal research, persuasive writing, and briefing strategy who thrives in high-stakes, complex litigation environments. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with merits teams across jurisdictions on some of the most challenging employment and class action matters nationwide.

Candidate Profile

  • JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record
  • Active Bar Admission in Illinois, in good standing
  • 7+ years of substantive experience focused on complex legal research and writing
  • Significant experience drafting substantive briefs and dispositive motions, preferably in employment and class action litigation
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute briefing strategy in collaboration with litigation teams
  • Experience preparing briefs and motions related to class and collective actions, including motions to dismiss, opposition to certification, decertification motions, summary judgment motions, and arbitration-related motions
  • Strong familiarity with employment and class action law developments across multiple jurisdictions
  • Exceptional research, analytical, organizational, and writing skills, with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Prior large law firm experience strongly preferred
  • Strong work ethic, commitment to excellence, and a results-oriented mindset

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and manage complex legal briefs and motions in employment-related class and collective action matters across state and federal courts
  • Prepare dispositive motions, oppositions to class and collective treatment, decertification motions, motions for summary judgment, and motions to compel arbitration
  • Support appeals and mediation efforts, including the preparation of appellate briefs and mediation statements
  • Collaborate closely with class action merits teams to align legal authority with case-specific facts and strategy
  • Monitor and analyze evolving employment and class action law across jurisdictions to inform briefing strategy and client advocacy

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Target annual compensation range of $300,000 – $355,000, commensurate with experience and seniority
  • Eligibility for a discretionary bonus.
