Director of Operations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Management:
Directs day-to-day plant production operations, including expense control, production yields, operating efficiencies, shipping, by-product recovery, processing, and plant sanitation.
Budget Development and Management:
Collaborates with the management team to develop and manage the annual operations budget, including capital project requests and prioritization.
Employee and Labor Relations:
Partners closely with Human Resources to support leadership development initiatives, training and education programs, workforce planning, and compliance with union collective bargaining agreements.
Compliance:
Supports the administration and compliance of federal and state employment laws, as well as company policies and procedures, in coordination with Human Resources and plant leadership.
Staffing and Workforce Planning:
Works with Human Resources to determine staffing plans and plays an active leadership role in recruiting, developing, and retaining employees.
Leadership Development:
Partners with senior leadership to identify and develop talent through formal training, mentoring, coaching, and developmental assignments. Actively participates in succession planning to ensure leadership continuity.
Performance Management:
Supports and utilizes the performance management process by assisting plant leadership with employee evaluations, providing guidance, training, and consultation as needed.
Employee Engagement:
Champions employee engagement initiatives by reviewing workforce trends with leadership and implementing actions to drive positive organizational outcomes.
Additional Responsibilities

Builds strong, collaborative relationships with Human Resources, Maintenance, Quality Control, IT, Sales, and Accounting to support operational excellence and business success.

Collaborates with the management team to support cross-functional strategies and the implementation of company-wide initiatives.

Develops and promotes business metrics that drive accountability, continuous improvement, and operational ownership at all levels.

Consults regularly with Human Resources to ensure consistent application of company policies and collective bargaining agreement provisions, providing guidance, troubleshooting support, and issue escalation as needed.

Meets regularly with teams to guide initiatives and drive continuous improvement efforts.

Works closely with external vendors, including packaging, equipment, laundry, security, and sanitation services.

Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of beef plant operational experience in a management role

Strong presentation, leadership, and business communication skills

Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications

Ability to analyze yield reports and interpret statistical data

Strong knowledge of United States CFR Title 9 regulations

Strong working knowledge of HACCP requirements in beef slaughter operations
