Our client, a prestigious AmLaw 100 national law firm, is seeking a talented Bankruptcy & Restructuring Associate to join its expanding creditors' rights and financial services litigation practice in Chicago. This position offers the opportunity to work with a sophisticated team representing lenders, special servicers, and other creditors in complex commercial litigation, restructuring, and insolvency matters.

 


 

Candidate Profile

  • JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record
  • Active Bar Admission in Illinois, in good standing (admission in Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, or Wisconsin is also welcomed; multi-jurisdictional admission is a plus)
  • 3-6 years of substantive experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, creditors' rights litigation, commercial litigation, or related practice areas
  • Experience representing financial institutions and commercial lenders in all stages of litigation, loan enforcement, workouts, and restructuring matters.
  • Significant experience managing day-to-day litigation activities, including fact investigations and case strategy development
  • Experience handling commercial foreclosures, receiverships, loan enforcement litigation, and real estate-related disputes
  • Experience managing bankruptcy matters, including motion practice, discovery, e-discovery, and courtroom appearances
  • Familiarity with guarantor litigation, post-judgment collection proceedings, and other creditors' rights enforcement matters
  • Experience with out-of-court workouts, settlement agreements, and forbearance agreements
  • Knowledge of ancillary litigation matters, including commercial landlord-tenant disputes, is a plus
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
  • Large law firm experience preferred

 


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent lenders, servicers, and other creditors in bankruptcy proceedings, restructuring matters, and related litigation
  • Handle commercial foreclosures, receivership actions, loan enforcement matters, and collection proceedings
  • Manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, motion practice, written discovery, depositions, e-discovery, and court appearances
  • Draft and negotiate workout agreements, settlement agreements, forbearance agreements, and related restructuring documents
  • Develop and implement litigation strategies designed to protect client interests and maximize recoveries
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice disciplines on complex insolvency, restructuring, and commercial litigation matters
  • Maintain direct client contact and provide practical, business-focused legal advice

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: $260,000 – $350,000, commensurate with experience
