Project Manager Engineering

Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering engineering projects within a fresh pork processing manufacturing environment. This role requires complete ownership of projects from initial concept through final implementation, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, regulated industry.


Responsibilities

  • Project Ownership: Assume full accountability for assigned projects from inception to completion.

  • Strategic Planning: Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in alignment with business goals.

  • Execution: Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk assessments.

  • Collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams (operations, maintenance, quality assurance) and external vendors.

  • Financial Management: Prepare detailed project budgets and monitor expenditures to ensure financial compliance and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, food safety standards, and company policies while promoting a culture of safety.

  • Vendor Management: Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers and contractors; manage contracts to ensure timely delivery.

  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and support plant modernization.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation and provide regular status updates and post-project evaluations to leadership.


Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.

  • Experience: 5+ years of engineering project management experience in manufacturing environments.

  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept through completion; proficiency in project management software and tools.

  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of food safety regulations and USDA guidelines preferred.

  • Certifications: PMP or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication abilities.

  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 30% to vendor sites or other facilities.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Environment: Exposure to manufacturing conditions including moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, and extreme temperature variations (hot/cold).

  • Physical: Requires the ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; frequent reaching, stooping, or crawling; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Safety: Hearing protection is required in loud environments.
