Summary

The Refrigeration Systems Supervisor is responsible for a variety of HVAC/R equipment serving industrial and commercial customers, through daily service maintenance, diagnostic review, and root-cause identification for needed repairs. This role works closely with customers to discuss work performed, review repair quotes for approval, and recommend preventative maintenance measures that increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

        Maintain, repair, and conduct preventative maintenance on material handling and building equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

        Utilize established PM and repair policies and procedures to return equipment to fully operational status.

        Read and understand technical drawings (e.g., blueprints, electronic/mechanical schematics) to repair and maintain equipment.

        Troubleshoot complex problems with equipment where the source of the issue is not immediately visible or obvious.

        Work as a team member with operations and other technicians to support facility equipment repair and maintenance.

        Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage workload and record actions (work orders, asset/labor history, inventory usage).

        Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with individuals or groups (customers, suppliers, associates).

        Operate material handling equipment, battery equipment, and moving machinery (e.g., scissor lift, boom lift) and other powered equipment.

        Perform daily preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment (lift trucks, pneumatic systems, material handling equipment, hydraulic equipment, dock equipment, refrigerated-room equipment, electronic and electrical equipment, etc.) according to procedures.

        Perform equipment repairs and maintenance on various refrigeration systems, including ammonia refrigeration systems.

        Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration-related electrical systems, including 120V control power and 480V 3-phase.

        Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance of refrigeration equipment.

        Troubleshoot and diagnose refrigeration system issues, identifying and resolving problems efficiently.

        Perform system checks, including temperature and pressure readings, to ensure proper operation.

        Handle emergency service calls for refrigeration system breakdowns and provide timely repairs.

        Collaborate with other technicians and team members to complete projects and assignments.

        Maintain accurate records of all repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used.

        Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working with refrigeration systems.

        Work with low levels of ammonia while adhering to all safety requirements (full-face respirator).

        Adhere to all policies and procedures of the respiratory protection program.

        Perform other duties as assigned, subject to change based on business needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

One-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

        Ability to work independently or as part of a team; sound reasoning and judgment.

        Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize important projects.

        Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.

        Meticulous attention to detail.

        Ability to adapt, troubleshoot, research solutions, and recommend efficiency improvements.

        One or more RETA certifications required: CARO (Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator), CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator), CRST (Certified Refrigeration Service Technician), CRES (Certified Refrigeration Energy Specialist), or RAI (RETA Authorized Instructor).

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and common fractions.
