Our client is a growing agribusiness operating at the intersection of agriculture, procurement, and global supply chains. They source and manage specialty crops such as lentils, peas, chickpeas, and other value-added commodities, supplying both domestic and international markets.

 

Based in North Battleford, SK, this role blends sourcing strategy, negotiation, market insight, and boots-on-the-ground relationship management. This is not a desk-only buying role — it’s a relationship-driven, market-facing position for someone who understands how grain actually moves from farm gate to end customer.

 

Grain Buyer – Role Details

  • Competitive base salary: $80,000–$90,000 (commensurate with experience)

Grain Buyer – Responsibilities

  • Develop and expand strategic sourcing relationships with producers, suppliers, and market partners
  • Lead procurement negotiations for specialty crops including chickpeas, lentils, peas, and other commodities
  • Strengthen and maintain long-term partnerships with farmers, brokers, elevators, and toll processors
  • Manage daily procurement records including grades, pricing, volumes, inventory levels, and contract details
  • Source appropriate grain specifications to meet both domestic and international contract requirements
  • Coordinate logistics and delivery schedules to ensure timely movement of product
  • Prepare and distribute daily bid and offer summaries to leadership
  • Provide regular market intelligence including crop conditions, harvest progress, and regional supply trends

 

Grain Buyer – Qualifications

  • Degree in Ag-Business or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in grain procurement, commodity trading, or agricultural sourcing
  • Established network within the grower, elevator, or ag-commodity market
  • Experience working with grain contracts, purchasing platforms, and inventory systems
  • Strong negotiation skills with a relationship-first approach
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, and internal reporting tools
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally internationally (less than 10%)
