Health & Safety Coordinator
KIT Recruitment has partnered with a growing meat processing facility in Etobicoke to hire a Health & Safety Coordinator (Afternoon Shift). This is a newly created role built to strengthen second-shift safety presence and drive a proactive, floor-first safety culture.
This is not a desk job. You’ll be highly visible on the production floor — coaching teams, identifying risks in real time, and ensuring full OHSA compliance. Reporting to the Health, Safety, Security & Continuous Improvement Manager, you’ll serve as the go-to safety lead on afternoons and step in as Incident Commander when needed.
Health & Safety Coordinator – Afternoon Shift Details:
- Afternoon Schedule: 2:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., Monday to Friday (weekend flexibility as required)
- Competitive Pay: $70,000 – $75,000 /year
- Up to 15% annual bonus
- Benefits after probationary period
- Vacation: 2 weeks annually
Health & Safety Coordinator – Afternoon Shift Responsibilities:
- Maintain compliance with Ontario OHSA and internal health and safety programs
- Serve as the primary health and safety presence on the afternoon shift, with up to 80% of time spent on the production floor
- Conduct regular inspections, identify hazards, and implement corrective action plans
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, complete root cause analysis, and recommend preventive measures
- Act as Incident Commander during emergencies, including hazard isolation, evacuation coordination, and communication with leadership and emergency services
- Develop, update, and maintain safety documentation, procedures, and emergency response plans
- Support and participate as a certified member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee
- Deliver safety training including LOTO, machine guarding, SOPs, toolbox talks, and onboarding for new hires and contractors
- Oversee contractor compliance and sanitation start-up activities on afternoons
- Support ergonomic assessments and recommend process or equipment improvements
- Assist with internal audits and ISO 45001 alignment initiatives
- Report safety metrics and trends to leadership and recommend continuous improvement initiatives
Health & Safety Coordinator – Afternoon Shift Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of Health & Safety experience within meat manufacturing (required)
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA and manufacturing safety standards
- Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience conducting investigations and developing corrective action plans
- Strong floor presence with the ability to coach, influence, and mentor employees at all levels
- Comfortable working in a temperature-controlled meat processing environment
- Post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred
- Organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple priorities independently
