Job Summary 

Chloeta is seeking a Forest Health and Program Training Specialist to support services to strengthen forest health monitoring and stakeholder engagement in Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. The goals and objectives of this project will be to increase forest monitoring and provide technical support to program staff, federal, state and private stakeholders. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Job Classification: Permanent; Full-Time 

Duty Station: San Juan, Puerto Rico   

Travel: up to 25%, contingent on business needs   

 

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Supports to the program manager coordinating, executing and reporting field monitoring efforts 

  • Supports field record keeping and desk record keeping 

  • Assists existing or new cooperators with field work as necessary 

  • Writes and reports summaries of their forest monitoring activities and compare findings against existing information 

  • Conducts desk research, prepare summaries and give written oral reports on forest health trends 

  • Assesses training needs to develop long-term forest health goals for forest health monitoring 

  • Develops written questionnaires and solicit feedback from federal, state, private, university and other stakeholder cooperators on forest health needs 

  • Develops Forest Health Training Curriculum 

  • Supports the program manager in organizing, delivering and assessing two workshops where technical monitoring skills, knowledge and abilities are provided to cooperators 

  • Supports events advertisement, record keeping of attendance and reporting on the workshop’s effectiveness 

  • Conducts quarterly virtual or in-person meetings with stakeholders 

  • Supports the symposium’s delivery in all phases of planning and execution

Required Skills/Abilities 

  • Broad experience conducting one-on-one interviews and meetings with varied stakeholders 

  • Planning and delivering gatherings for up to 100 participants with a wide variety of stakeholders 

  • Knowledge and experience developing and implementing interactive dynamics and networking activities for fostering collaborations 

  • Expertise in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Island’s Flora and Fauna, ecosystems, protected or private forests and the ecosystem 

  • Knowledge of invasive species, forestry diseases and other forest health related topics 

 

Education and Experience 

  • Required: Master’s Degree in Biology, Forestry, Environmental Science or related field  

  • Required: At least Two (2) years of experience reviewing technical and scientific literature, as well as preparing summaries and written reports 

  • Required: At least Two (2) years of experience building surveys, receiving feedback and implementing findings 

  • Required: At least One (1) year of experience in developing curriculums or instructional content as well as knowledge of learning practices and theories   

  • Required: At least One (1) year of experience coordinating workshops and developing evaluation forms 

  • Required: Experience working in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Island’s Flora and Fauna, ecosystems, protected or private forests and the ecosystem services they provide 

  • Required: Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish 

  

Physical Requirements 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc. 

  • Travel on-site for project needs   

  • Capacity to walk on irregular terrain, carrying monitoring equipment (up to 25lb) in hot and humid tropical conditions
