Engineering Technician
Job Summary
The Engineering Technician provides technical and analytical support for a federal agency, focusing on data management, visualization, and reporting. This role supports development of project tracking tools, synthesizes technical data, and produces graphical and reporting products to support multi-disciplinary natural resource management and disaster recovery efforts.

Job Classification: Full-Time
Duty Station: Ashville, NC (Hybrid, 2 days minimum onsite)
Travel: Travel up to 75% (Travel required throughout the National Forests in North Carolina)
Duration: This role is anticipated to last 6 months, with the possibility of extension pending contract options.
Duties/Responsibilities

Support development and maintenance of project tracking and visual reporting tools

Synthesize field assessments and damage reports into prioritized needs lists and data products

Develop graphical representations, maps, and technical visuals for projects and reports

Compile and organize natural resource data for multi-disciplinary planning efforts

Maintain and manage records, databases, and project documentation systems

Support preparation of technical reports, presentations, and planning materials

Assist with multi-resource analysis across disciplines (hydrology, timber, wildlife, botany, etc.)

Ensure data is properly entered and maintained in USFS systems of record

Support project managers and specialists with data analysis and reporting needs

Perform quality checks on data and ensure accuracy of technical outputs

Assist with tracking project performance, milestones, and key indicators

Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to support project planning and execution

Provide technical support for decision-making and resource management activities

Required Skills/Abilities

Required: Strong skills in data analysis, synthesis, and technical reporting

Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to manage complex datasets

Required: Ability to develop graphical products, reports, and visualizations

Required: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred: Experience with data visualization tools and reporting platforms

Preferred: Familiarity with USFS databases and records management systems

Preferred: Experience working with federal agencies or similar organizations

Preferred: Knowledge of natural resource management disciplines
Education and Experience

Required: Associate’s degree or higher in Engineering Technology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or related field

Required: Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering, technical support, or natural resources field

Required: Experience in data synthesis, analysis, and technical documentation

Preferred: Training or certification in data visualization or technical reporting

Preferred: Experience supporting multi-disciplinary resource management projects
Physical Requirements

Ability to work in an office or remote environment using standard computer systems

Ability to travel occasionally to project sites or meetings

Ability to communicate effectively in written, virtual, and in-person settings
