This position is responsible for designing, developing, and managing electrical and automation projects in a global manufacturing environment. Projects range from small, fast-turn initiatives to large, high-visibility efforts and must be delivered on time and within budget. The role requires a self-motivated engineer who is eager to learn, takes full ownership of projects, and thrives in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team setting.

- Design, develop, debug, and support safe operation of process and automation control systems.
- Create master plans, automation strategies, and software configurations, and troubleshoot complex system issues.
- Source, evaluate, and recommend vendors and automation components.
- Write, debug, and maintain multi-station PLC code, including development of device drivers.
- Program MMI devices and design associated interface circuitry.
- Determine power and load requirements and identify system limitations or restrictions.
- Design logic systems for sequence control, timing control, and overall machine functionality.
- Design and draft diagrams for cable connections and electrical layouts.
- Develop and maintain processes and controls for design verification.
- Create quality testing procedures and supporting tools.
- Work with the Engineering Manager to establish, enforce, and improve electrical design standards, change control processes, and documentation requirements.
- Take full ownership and responsibility for assigned projects from concept through completion.
- Identify performance issues on new and existing equipment, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
- Actively participate in brainstorming and whiteboard sessions for new designs and provide constructive critique of existing designs.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, software, and controls engineers.
- Perform or assist with equipment and material testing and validation studies.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in the industrial automation industry.
- Strong knowledge of current electrical technologies and applicable codes and standards (UL, CSA, CE).
- Working knowledge of major PLC and control platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, B&R, or similar systems.
- Solid understanding of electromechanical relationships within complex automation systems.
- Experience contributing to and improving engineering procedures and standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent technical aptitude with strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively in a team environment.
- Experience working in or closely with machine shop environments is a plus (welding, milling, turning, sheet metal).
- Knowledge and experience with 3D CAD software, with Autodesk Inventor preferred; SolidWorks or similar tools also acceptable.
