We are seeking a skilled Accountant specializing in the construction sector to join our dynamic team. This role involves a comprehensive range of accounting tasks, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply ASC 606 revenue recognition principles by examining customer contracts, identifying performance obligations, and allocating revenue appropriately.
- Manage project accounting processes, including cost tracking, billing, revenue and cost accruals, change orders, and work-in-progress assessments.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and process journal entries while aiding in general ledger reconciliations.
- Support accounts payable functions by reviewing invoices, coding expenses accurately, and ensuring timely processing.
- Assist with month-end and quarter-end closing activities, ensuring precise and timely revenue and cost recognition at the project level.
- Contribute to the development and analysis of budgets and forecasts at the project level, reporting any variances from estimates.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Legal, and Billing teams to ensure contract terms are reflected correctly in financial records.
- Maintain documentation for revenue recognition and project accounting, and support internal and external audits as necessary.
- Identify opportunities to enhance processes and systems related to project accounting and revenue recognition.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience, with prior experience in project accounting being highly advantageous.
- Proficiency with ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
- Understanding of accounts payable workflows and project-based invoice coding.
- Strong skills in Excel and familiarity with accounting or ERP systems such as Deltek, Sage, NetSuite, or Procore.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical abilities, and a capacity to work effectively under deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including Sales, Contracts, Project Management, and Legal teams.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.
- Experience with change order analysis or contract modifications.
- Exposure to cost accounting and overhead allocations.
- Familiarity with revenue and billing modules in ERP systems.
- Experience in a multicompany accounting environment.
- Prior involvement in audits or preparing supporting schedules and disclosures.
