Position Overview:

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost projections for construction projects, factoring in materials, labor, equipment, tools, and costs related to mobilization and demobilization. This role requires a solid understanding of industry standards, principles, and practices specific to electrical utility construction. The ideal candidate will use sound judgment and limited supervision to effectively plan and estimate project requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate construction costs for projects ranging from $5 million to $100 million for a General Contractor.
  • Prepare estimates for self-performed work, including labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of construction assemblies and all phases of a project.
  • Develop estimates from both conceptual and schematic drawings with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Produce final, detailed estimates for contract submissions.
  • Evaluate potential site risks and integrate cost implications into estimates accordingly.
  • Identify constructability issues during the estimation phase.
  • Propose value engineering solutions where applicable.
  • Collaborate effectively with other team members.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Estimator in the Underground Utilities sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow and convey instructions.
  • Prior experience bidding on underground utility projects in the $5M to $10M range for a General Contractor.
