Position Overview

A growing plastics manufacturer in the South Dallas area is seeking a Mold Repair Technician / Mold Maker Apprentice to join its Tool Room team. This role fits someone who enjoys hands‑on mechanical work and wants to build a long-term career in mold making and tooling.

This position offers a clear growth path for individuals who want to develop into a skilled Mold Maker or advance into a Tool Room leadership role. The selected candidate will work closely with the Tool Room Manager and experienced tooling professionals to support mold maintenance, repair, and improvement efforts that keep production running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

·         Perform preventative maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on plastic injection molds.

·         Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble molds following production runs.

·         Identify wear, damage, or process issues and recommend corrective actions.

·         Assist with mold modifications, adjustments, and engineering changes.

·         Support mold builds, tool tryouts, and production start-ups as needed.

·         Operate and assist with tool room equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM machines.

·         Perform polishing, fitting, spotting, and bench work on mold components.

·         Maintain documentation for mold maintenance, repairs, and tool performance.

·         Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve tooling-related issues.

·         Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool room environment.

Qualifications

·         Mechanical aptitude and strong hands-on troubleshooting ability

·         Experience working with injection molds, machining, or tool room equipment preferred

·         Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand mold components

·         Familiarity with mills, lathes, grinders, or EDM equipment is a plus

·         Welding, polishing, or mold fitting experience is beneficial

·         Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

·         Willingness to learn and develop advanced tooling skills

·         Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and in a team environment

Preferred Background

·         Experience in plastic injection molding, mold maintenance, or tool room operations

·         Technical training in machining, tooling, or manufacturing technology

·         Interest in long-term career growth in mold making or tool room leadership
