JOB SUMMARY

Seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automatic Screw Machine Operator / Set-Up Machinist to join a high-volume production team. This role involves setting up, adjusting, and operating a fleet of multi-spindle automatic screw machines—specifically Davenport Model B (5-spindle) and Acme Gridley multi-spindle machines. Whether you are a seasoned Setup Machinist capable of dropping cams and timing attachments from scratch, or an experienced Operator focused on maintaining close tolerances and maximizing uptime, your expertise will directly support aerospace and commercial manufacturing lines.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Machine Setup (Set-Up Level): Perform complete, complex setups on Davenport Model B and/or Acme Gridley multi-spindle automatic screw machines from blueprint to first-piece inspection.
• Tooling & Attachments: Install, align, and adjust standard and specialized machine attachments (e.g., cross-drilling, threading, flat generating, slotting, tapping, and broaching).
• Machine Operation: Load bar stock (up to 7/8” capacity), monitor machine cycles, clear metal chips, and maintain consistent high-volume production output.
• Troubleshooting & Adjustments: Identify and correct machining defects by adjusting tool slides, replacing worn form tools/drills, changing gears, and altering speed/feed cycles.
• Quality Inspection: Read and interpret complex mechanical blueprints and routing sheets. Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, optical comparators) to perform routine part inspections.
• Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine daily maintenance (checking lubricants/coolants) and adhere strictly to shop safety protocols, keeping the multi-spindle bay organized and efficient.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
• Operator Level: 2+ years of experience operating Davenport or Acme Gridley multi-spindle screw machines.
• Set-Up Level: 5+ years of proven experience performing independent machine setups, tool grinding, and troubleshooting on multi-spindle equipment.
• Technical Skills: Deep understanding of multi-spindle mechanics, cam timing, and gear configurations.
• Blueprints: Strong blueprint reading skills and familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Precision: Proven ability to hold tight manufacturing tolerances (+/- .001) on high-speed lines.
• Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and work safely in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Screening & Legal: Must be able to pass a standard background check and drug screening. Must meet ITAR requirements (US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card).
