Position Overview
An established engineering consulting organization is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its mechanical team. This onsite role focuses on the design, planning, and execution of large-scale utility generation and distribution projects serving industrial facilities, hospitals, universities, campuses, and district energy systems.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, project management, and engineering expertise while working closely with clients, project teams, and stakeholders to deliver complex infrastructure projects from concept through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering documents, calculations, and equipment specifications to meet project requirements and applicable codes.
- Perform mechanical engineering calculations and technical analyses.
- Review and approve utility system and equipment selections and drawing submittals.
- Lead equipment procurement activities for utility and energy projects.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and engineering resources.
- Drive projects to successful completion while maintaining quality and client satisfaction.
- Coordinate with architectural, electrical, civil, and structural disciplines.
- Provide technical leadership and direction to project teams and subconsultants.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff.
- Support other engineering disciplines with technical expertise as needed.
- Develop campus utility master plans and technical reports.
- Participate in client meetings, industry events, conferences, and professional organizations.
- Assist with project cost estimating and planning activities.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration or willingness to pursue licensure.
- 10+ years of professional engineering experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in utility generation and distribution system design.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience developing technical reports and campus utility master plans.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with clients, engineers, designers, and stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective meeting facilitation and presentation skills.
- Cost estimating experience.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without current or future sponsorship requirements.
Preferred
- Experience with infrastructure projects and/or plant operations.
Working Conditions
- Occasional field work may be required on active construction sites.
- Some assignments may involve navigating uneven terrain and lifting or moving field-testing equipment.

Compensation
$115,000 – $173,000 annually plus eligibility for an annual bonus. Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, education, and location.
