Overview
An employee-owned civil engineering organization is seeking a Project Manager to join its Solar Studio team in San Diego. This role combines traditional land development project management with a strong focus on renewable energy and solar projects. The Project Manager will lead civil engineering efforts from early design through construction, while managing budgets, schedules, client relationships, and multidisciplinary teams.
This position is ideal for an experienced civil engineer with a passion for sustainable infrastructure and hands-on experience delivering solar or renewable energy developments.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and deliver solar and land development projects, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule objectives are met.

Lead project teams through design development, permitting, and construction support phases.

Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and public agencies.

Prepare and manage project scopes, budgets, proposals, and change orders.

Review engineering design plans and calculations to ensure compliance with agency standards and project requirements.

Mentor junior engineers and designers, fostering collaboration and technical growth.

Support business development initiatives through proposal writing and client relationship management.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent discipline.

8–10 years of civil engineering experience, including at least 3 years managing solar or renewable energy projects.

Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Demonstrated experience leading design teams for utility-scale or commercial solar developments, including grading, drainage, stormwater, and site layout.

Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design software.

Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder coordination skills.
Preferred Experience

Experience working with energy developers, EPC firms, or power-generation site projects.

Familiarity with California agency permitting processes for renewable energy developments.

Strong interest in sustainable infrastructure and renewable technologies.
