About the Role
Our client is seeking a driven Industrial Engineer to support manufacturing operations through process optimization, material flow improvement, and plant layout design. This role will focus heavily on lean manufacturing, warehouse and conveyance systems, and ensuring efficient delivery of materials in a high-volume, just-in-time environment.
This is a hands-on role working closely with production, supply chain, and engineering teams to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support overall plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency and reduce waste
- Conduct value stream mapping (VSM) and time studies to identify bottlenecks and drive improvements
- Design and optimize plant layout, material flow, and warehouse operations
- Develop and maintain Plan for Every Part (PFEP) and material storage strategies
- Support kitting, sequencing, and line-side delivery processes
- Design and improve material handling systems, including conveyance and storage solutions
- Evaluate and implement lean manufacturing principles (Kaizen, 5S, one-piece flow, takt time)
- Develop packaging solutions, including dunnage and line-side racking systems
- Support Product Change Notices (PCN) and process changes impacting material flow and operations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with production, quality, and supply chain teams
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Assist with ergonomics and workplace safety improvements
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- 2–5+ years of experience in manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain environments
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles (VSM, Kaizen, 5S, takt time)
- Experience with material flow, plant layout, and warehouse optimization
- Familiarity with JIT, sequencing, and high-volume assembly environments
- Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, and data analysis tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive or Tier 1 supplier experience
- Experience with PFEP, AGVs, or automated material handling systems
- SAP or ERP system experience
- Experience in a union environment
- Exposure to ISO/IATF or similar manufacturing standards
Recruiter Notes (Internal Use)
- This is NOT a desk engineer — must be hands-on with material flow + plant layout
- Look for candidates with warehouse + manufacturing overlap
- Lean experience must be real (not just buzzwords)
- Automotive / JIT experience is a big advantage
- Strong candidates will have experience with sequencing, kitting, or PFEP
