Montana (Missoula)

Hybrid role. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of one of the listed office locations.

License Requirement:
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Idaho or Washington, or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Overview

A well-established geotechnical consulting organization is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to lead and execute a wide range of subsurface investigation projects. This hybrid role combines technical engineering analysis, project management, and cross-functional collaboration, with opportunities for mentoring and direct client interaction.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical Analysis

  • Lead geotechnical projects from proposal through completion, including field programs, laboratory coordination, and technical evaluations.

  • Perform analyses related to ground conditions, foundation design, slope stability, and seismic considerations.

  • Review, edit, and finalize technical reports prepared by engineering staff.

Project Management

  • Manage the full project lifecycle, including proposals, execution, reporting, and client deliverables.

  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and special inspections as required.

  • Ensure projects are completed within defined scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Communicate directly with clients to clarify findings and adjust recommendations when necessary.

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and billing information.

  • Apply risk management best practices throughout the project lifecycle.

Team Collaboration

  • Supervise and support junior engineers and field technicians as needed.

  • Mentor Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and support technical development within the team.

  • Coordinate with laboratory and field supervisors to ensure quality and efficiency.

Professional Engagement

  • Participate in relevant technical and industry organizations.

  • Stay current with geotechnical standards, methods, and emerging trends to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering preferred.

  • Active PE license in Idaho or Washington, or ability to obtain licensure within 30 days.

  • 5–10 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering preferred.

  • Strong expertise in foundation design, soil mechanics, and technical reporting.

  • Experience with tools such as BoreDM, Settle3D, SLIDE, LPILE, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.

  • Familiarity with SharePoint, OneDrive, Unanet CRM, or Outlook is a plus.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work model combining office, remote, and field-based work.

  • Field assignments may involve varying weather conditions.

  • Occasional travel and schedule flexibility required during peak workloads.
