Senior Director of Credit Insurance Risk ManagementLocation: Raleigh, NC – Hybrid Schedule
We are seeking a Senior Director of Credit Insurance Risk Management to join our team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will lead the oversight of a Bermuda-based business unit, serving as the Risk Management leader with a hands-on approach to building foundational risk management capabilities. You will provide strategic input and oversight of credit and counterparty risk, insurance underwriting risk, portfolio monitoring, and new product development. This position also requires preparing and delivering risk management reporting to senior management, the Board of Directors, and the Bermuda Monetary Authority. The role reports to the Executive Vice President & Chief Risk Officer and serves as a key advisor to senior management in ensuring a strong Enterprise Risk Management program across the business.
Actively develop and implement foundational risk management frameworks and policies to strengthen credit and counterparty risk, insurance underwriting risk, and portfolio management capabilities.
Conduct qualitative and quantitative assessments for existing and new business opportunities using internal and external models, analytical tools, and rating models.
Assist in developing the company’s Risk Appetite and translate it into underwriting policy limits and guidelines, including exception and approval processes.
Establish a portfolio management framework with key data collection elements, risk indicators, and monitoring reports to identify new and emerging risks and assess portfolio performance.
Conduct credit and counterparty due diligence and risk assessments for insurance/reinsurance counterparties and strategic partners, ensuring consistency and transparency through tools and ratings frameworks.
Develop and implement scenario analyses and stress tests, collaborating with business functions to design appropriate mitigation strategies.
Ensure governance, compliance, and oversight with Bermuda regulatory risk management requirements, including preparation and submission of the annual Commercial Insurer Solvency Self-Assessment (CISSA).
Prepare and present regular risk and portfolio monitoring reports to senior management, the Board, and regulators.
Engage with external experts and conduct independent research to enhance risk management practices and analytical tools.
Provide strategic insights into risks and opportunities for new markets and product lines in support of long-term growth objectives.
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, Actuarial Science, or related field.
Minimum 10 years of experience in credit risk management, preferably with oversight of, or direct experience in, credit (re)insurance underwriting.
Knowledge of economic, regulatory, and rating agency capital frameworks, with experience developing risk appetite and limits aligned to capital requirements.
Strong understanding of regulatory risk management requirements.
Experience developing and managing enterprise risk management frameworks in the insurance/reinsurance industry.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proven leadership and team development skills.
Self-motivated, proactive, and able to drive initiatives independently.
Ability to present complex analyses clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Skilled at preparing and delivering presentations to senior management and board-level audiences.
Proficiency in financial modeling and analytical software.
Advanced degree.
Professional certifications in Risk Management, Credit Risk Management, or Actuarial Science designations.
