Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and driven HVAC Startup and Commissioning Technician to lead our Testing and Commissioning department. This role will focus on new equipment commissioning, system startups, and leading the team through all phases of the commissioning process. The selected candidate will also play a role in developing procedures and best practices, ensuring operational efficiency and top-tier service.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commissioning, startup, and testing of DX systems, including package units ranging from 5-50 tons, ensuring they meet operational standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-startup tasks, including the review of design engineering drawings, material assessments, and programming for PLC or VFD systems.
  • Execute in-depth checks on all system components, both pre- and post-energization, such as optimizing refrigerant charges, inspecting motors, aligning belts, and verifying control sequences.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues during system commissioning or quality control processes, thoroughly documenting errors and implementing corrective measures.
  • Offer technical support to operators and clients throughout the installation, startup, and operational phases of HVAC systems.
  • Create and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for testing and commissioning while guiding junior staff to promote skill development and knowledge sharing.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to guarantee smooth operation of systems and units across various projects.
  • Occasionally travel to job sites to oversee new system startups and conduct final acceptance testing (FAT) to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors, ensuring open communication and addressing any operational or technical concerns.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with DX systems, particularly in designing, commissioning, and startup processes.
  • Expertise in system charging, subcooling, superheat, compressor technologies, and scroll compressors.
  • Proficient in controls, PLCs, and stop control boards, with a strong focus on troubleshooting.
  • EPA Universal Certification and a high school diploma are required.
  • Certifications in standard evacuation processes.
  • Experience working as an HVAC technician in commercial or industrial settings.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to guide teams and develop operational efficiencies.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed, with the goal of streamlining processes to reduce overtime once efficiency is achieved.

  • Certifications such as NATE Certification (North American Technician Excellence), HVAC Excellence Certification, or R-410A Certification are a plus!

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary of $80,000 - $120,000, with performance-based incentive bonuses.
