Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO)

Our valued client in higher education is seeking a local and established Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to join their team on a full-time basis in New Orleans, LA! This is an onsite position (non-negotiable).

The CHRO will provide, promote, and implement human resources values by planning and managing human resources programs. Incumbent will oversee the development and implementation of human resources policies, programs, and services including talent management, HR processing and operations, employee relations, talent development, regulatory compliance, compensation and benefits, and employment practices and procedures. The CHRO serves as an Appointing Authority for classified service employees with the understanding that the Chancellor is the final appointing authority.

The CHRO will play an integral role in the following:

  • Business Partnerships
    • Functions as HR Business Partner with senior management by driving HRM strategies to support business objectives across staffing, organizational design, compensation planning, performance management, goal setting and employee development.
  • Transformative Leadership
    • Provides leadership for staff, fostering an environment of trust, loyalty and strong culture. Participates in strategic planning and provides leadership with guidance in execution. Serves as key partner in advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging efforts.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Establishes vision, mission and values and plays an active role in the execution of short- and long-term goals and objectives.
  • HR Innovation
    • Drives innovation through technology solutions, talent identification, diversity and inclusion, performance management and talent development. Supports efforts to drive organization in best practices, systems, tools and processes that will promote engagement across all areas.
  • Human Resources Leadership

What you will need:

  • 15 + years of human resources experience, including progressive leadership with experience managing a staff of at least 10 employees.
    • Experience in higher education or civil service environments preferred.
    • Preferred leadership experience includes Director, AVP, VP, or CHRO experience in HR, Talent Management, Diversity & Inclusion, and Organizational Leadership related positions.
    • Master’s degree can be substituted for 2 years’ experience
    • SPHR or PHR certification preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Proven ability to drive execution; individual must be able to effectively pivot from strategic to tactical to ensure progress and meaningful impact.
  • Experience building a solid HR organization and team that can drive organizational change.
  • Appreciation and understanding for academic culture, perhaps gained through experience in higher education or in a similarly complex and mission-driven organization.
