Position: Corporate Controller
Location: Alexandria, VA
Position Summary:We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Controller to manage our financial operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong financial background, expertise with accounting software (particularly Foundations), and a thorough understanding of GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements. This role plays a key part in supporting strategic decision-making by providing insightful financial analysis, maintaining compliance, and driving financial best practices across the organization.

Founded in 1995, the company has experienced significant growth by consistently delivering on our commitments to clients. They specialize in self-performing a range of services, including Drywall, Rainscreen, Restoration, EIFS, Stucco, Rough Carpentry, and Vapor/Air Barriers.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management: Oversee all financial operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and collections, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Reporting & Analysis: Prepare detailed, accurate financial statements and reports to support decision-making and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
Work-in-Process Reporting: Assist the CFO in preparing the Work-In-Process (WIP) report, reconciling it to the General Ledger, and conducting job-level financial analysis.
Budgeting: Develop and maintain accurate budget reports, analyzing performance against goals, and providing recommendations for adjustments as needed.
Change Orders: Supervise the entry and management of change orders and their corresponding budgets in accounting software.
Compliance & Taxation: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including handling use tax returns, multi-state tax filings, and supporting the CFO during audits and compliance reviews.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance financial processes, systems, and internal controls to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to promote professional growth and maintain high-quality performance.
Ad-Hoc Projects: Contribute to special projects and initiatives as assigned by the CFO, leveraging financial expertise to help drive company growth and success.
Internal Controls: Implement and maintain effective internal controls to protect company assets and ensure the integrity of financial processes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA preferred).
7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior financial management or Controller role in the construction industry.
Strong expertise in job cost accounting, construction billing, and percentage-of-completion accounting methods.
Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Foundations or similar).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
Exceptional attention to detail, a strong commitment to accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines consistently.
In-depth knowledge of tax regulations, financial reporting standards, and industry compliance requirements.
