Our mid-sized cardiovascular client is adding a Principal Electrical Engineer to the team. The EE will play a key role in supporting and improving designs of innovative medical devices. This is a technical, hands-on engineering position that works as an integral member of the design-sustaining team. In this role, you will utilize data to identify opportunities, lead projects, and implement changes focused on improving product performance and reliability, product enhancements, and component obsolescence. You'll be a key contributor/leader on cross-functional teams, provide technical guidance, and ensure our products meet customer and regulatory requirements. This individual will foster collaborative relationships, mentor and transfer knowledge and experience to others, contribute to the creation and management of sustaining engineering budget, and may perform some personnel functions.
Your role with the company:
Design, develop, implement, and maintain updated/improved electrical solutions to meet customer and design requirements.
Execute product enhancement projects according to solid project plans and management principles (scope, timeline, milestones, and risk-based decision-making).
Implement updated/improved designs into production, including developing functional test solutions.
Update/create required specifications and technical documents, including requirements specifications, architecture and design documentation, and test and verification plans and reports.
Update, improve, and support existing microcontroller and microprocessor-based products incorporating sensors, motor controls, communication, and UX elements.
Update, improve, and support existing designs to applicable regulatory standards such as UL, FCC, and CE.
Update, improve, and support existing test fixtures to verify the circuit boards and/or systems functionality for production testing.
Provide guidance and mentorship to a highly functional team of professionals responsible for maintaining and improving the design of BMT medical device products through proactive communication, collaboration, and sharing of knowledge/expertise.
Understand user experiences to be able to make informed design improvement decisions.
Desired Profile:
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering
10+ years of electrical engineering experience with at least 3+ years in medical device
Experience with hardware development
Ability to specify and evaluate electrical components based on performance, lifespan, and availability
Skilled in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer, PADS or equivalent
Proven project management skills
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong leadership abilities to influence and empower others
Self-starter with strong initiative and personal accountability
Desire to mentor and coach technical team members
Experience leading teams or working cross-functionally in an engineering environment
Familiarity with embedded system and microprocessor design
Working knowledge of software and operating systems
Experience with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)
Understanding of EMI and UL requirements
Experienced in the design of experiments, data analysis, statistical methods and presentation of results
