Structural Engineer, Industrial Design Projects
Seeking an ambitious Structural Engineer to lead a variety of design engineering projects focused on air pollution control technologies and equipment for industrial and manufacturing customers. Contribute as an active member of a skilled engineering team on new builds and retrofit projects to customize design solutions for plant utility departments to ensure compliance with state/federal environmental standards.
Our client is a privately-held rapidly growing engineering and construction services firm focused on design, installation, and refurbishment of air pollution control technologies for heavy industrial customers in Pulp & Paper, Power Generation, Steel/Aluminum, Oil & Gas, and Chemical Manufacturing markets throughout the US. This position offers a clear career path to becoming an Engineering Manager, including company-paid Professional Structural Engineering (PE) licensure.
Key Responsibilities Include:
· Perform structural analysis and calculations for air filtration and pollution control equipment (casings, hoppers, discharge electrodes, collector plates, ductwork, access/support structures) for both new equipment and retrofit work
· Model/analyze structures using structural engineering software (RISA preferred) across various loading conditions, including dead, live, seismic, wind, and thermal loads
· Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering peers to create tailored design solutions for each plant
· Partner with construction on constructability reviews; develop rigging plans for crane lifts
· Prepare technical reports/specifications; gather information for jobs/proposals
· Occasionally travel to job sites for field inspections/troubleshooting and produce written findings
Qualifications include
· B.S. in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
· M.S. in Structural Engineering or Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate preferred
· 5+ years of structural engineering design experience; industrial or power plant project experience preferred
· Prior experience with an Architectural Engineering (AE) or Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) firm is a strong plus
· Proven steel and concrete structural analysis/design experience; solid command of structural mechanics and building codes
· Strong analytical/problem-solving skills; high attention to detail and quality
· Excellent written/verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
· FEA tools (e.g., RISA 3D, RISA Connection, RISA Section, RISA Foundation)
· Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity, while remaining creative in offering solutions to design challenges in a fast-paced dynamic work environment
· Must be willing to relocate to Troy, AL or commutable surrounding area
