Publication Designer (Contract, Part-Time)

We’re not looking for a pixel pusher. We’re looking for a designer who can take complex, long-form content and make it sing.

For our client, design is strategy. We need a Publication Designer who thrives in editorial and long-form formats - someone who knows how to translate dense ideas into polished, professional publications that connect. You’ll work side by side with a communications strategist on a 15-person team that’s building content with real influence.

What You’ll Do

  • Design long-form publications and editorial content that are as functional as they are beautiful.

  • Collaborate directly with strategists and content creators to elevate storytelling.

  • Balance clean, brand-aligned design with creative edge.

  • Translate ideas seamlessly across digital and print.

  • Manage your own time, priorities, and creative output with precision.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of design experience, with a strong portfolio of long-form, editorial, or publication work.

  • Proven ability to create clean, professional, and polished design.

  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite; comfort learning new tools (we’ve just onboarded Ceros, no expertise required).

  • Strong communication skills - you can explain the “why” behind your design decisions.

  • Flexibility, organization, and the ability to juggle deadlines without losing quality.

The Setup

  • Part-time contract: ~20 hours per week (occasionally up to 30, but rarely).

  • No set hours. Build this into your schedule with true flexibility.

  • If you consistently stay around 20 hours, this can be a long-term, indefinite engagement.

  • We’ll supply a Mac laptop and peripherals (the team runs Mac; rest of the org runs Microsoft).

  • Local candidates only.

  • Ideal for a true freelancer managing multiple clients.

Why This Role

This isn’t production design - it’s impact design. You’ll be joining a sharp, collaborative team that values strategy, craft, and results. If you want a steady, flexible contract where your design skills move the needle, let’s talk.
