Radiation Therapist I
Houston TX 

90-120K + Bonus + Paid Relocation Available 

The Radiation Therapist functions as an essential member of the oncology team, working closely with the entire clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety throughout the course of radiation therapy. This role acts as a liaison with Physicians and supporting personnel, ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient care while strictly adhering to professional and safety standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

People (Communication & Collaboration)

  • Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and colleagues to facilitate the highest quality service.

  • Promote a positive work environment and contribute to a dynamic, team-focused unit through peer-to-peer accountability and collaboration.

  • Actively communicate and report pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner to all members of the patient care team.

Service (Patient Care & Treatment Delivery)

  • Deliver a planned course of radiation therapy accurately and safely, as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist, utilizing department equipment.

  • Perform simulation operations, selecting appropriate immobilization and positioning aids for simulation and treatment.

  • Fabricate immobilization devices and custom blocks and accurately document all simulation steps.

  • Provide education, accurate explanations, and instructions to patients and family members regarding treatment, utilizing appropriate communication techniques and language.

  • Assess the patient's condition, needs, and side effects daily, providing information and sensitively referring the patient to appropriate resources.

Quality & Safety

  • Adhere strictly to principles of radiation protection (ALARA) for the patient, self, and others.

  • Follow safety standards and maintain proper sterile and aseptic techniques for procedures, ensuring compliance with radiation safety and infection control.

  • Perform and document warm-up procedures and machine operation checks as recommended by the manufacturer, physics, and department guidelines.

  • Implement and deliver the prescribed treatment, adhering to acceptable department, institutional, governmental, and professional standards (e.g., ARRT guidelines).

Finance & Efficiency

  • Provide accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures.

  • Enter, validate, and review charges at the time service is delivered, as appropriate.

  • Utilize resources efficiently, minimize waste, and independently manage time to prioritize daily tasks.

Growth & Innovation

  • Participate in department projects or shared governance activities.

  • Assume responsibility for professional growth and development by participating in in-services programs and continuing education.

  • Seek opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a Therapist.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Education: Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s).

  • Work Experience: None required; new graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Seniority Level: Entry

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • CMRT - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist - State Licensure (Registration as a Medical Radiologic Technologist - MRT-GC).

  • ARRT-THR - Radiologic Technologist - Radiation Therapy (ARRT) (New graduates may be considered, but must obtain ARRT (T) certification within 3 months of hire).

  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform essential job functions and ensure safety.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers with a customer service focus.

  • Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems including Hospital / Radiation Oncology Information Systems and Office software.

  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team.

  • Ability to adapt to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision, including organizing work flow and actively participating in problem-solving.
