Engineering Manager – Electrical Design

About the Role
Our client is seeking an Engineering Manager for Electrical Design to lead and develop their electrical design team within a fast-paced automation and material-handling environment. This leader will oversee all electrical design activities, support project execution, mentor engineers, and drive technical excellence across controls, schematics, PLC design, and system integration. The ideal candidate brings both strong engineering expertise and proven experience managing people.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the electrical design engineering team, providing technical guidance, direction, and performance management.
Oversee the development of electrical designs, schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and PLC-based system architecture.
Collaborate with mechanical design, project management, and installation teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Remain hands-on in design work as needed, particularly during complex or high-priority projects.
Review and approve engineering documentation, BOMs, and design packages.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and safety requirements.
Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting activities as required.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the design process, documentation, and engineering best practices.
Maintain project schedules, resource allocation, and engineering workflow.
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field required.
7+ years of electrical design engineering experience, including hands-on work with PLC systems, schematics, wiring diagrams, and industrial controls.
2+ years of experience managing or leading an engineering team.
Experience in baggage handling, conveyor systems, automation, or small-part equipment design strongly preferred.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical (or similar design tools).
Strong understanding of PLC hardware and controls integration.
Ability to contribute both as a leader and as a hands-on engineer.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
