Job Description: Quality Systems Specialist / Quality Manager

Position Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality Systems Specialist / Quality Manager to join our small team at an FAA-approved manufacturing facility specializing in proprietary aviation products. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of quality assurance and ensure compliance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 and regulatory requirements. This is a critical role that involves leading audits, maintaining quality management systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to ensure product excellence.

This role will serve as the Main POC for quality issues relating to customers or suppliers.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Quality Management System (QMS):
    • Maintain and improve the facility’s AS9100 and ISO 9001 certified QMS.
    • Ensure documentation is up-to-date, accurate, and adheres to industry standards.
    • Management review (twice per year)
  1. Audits:
    • Lead internal and external audits, including customer, regulatory, and certification audits (i.e. FAA, AS9100, Customer audits).
    • Serve as the main point of contact with auditors and certification bodies.
    • Address and resolve non-conformances and implement corrective actions effectively.
  1. Process Improvement:
    • Identify areas for quality improvement within the facility’s operations.
    • Develop and implement procedures to enhance manufacturing processes and product reliability.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  1. Supplier Quality:
    • Evaluate and monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with quality standards.
    • Collaborate with suppliers to address quality concerns and implement corrective measures.
  1. Team Leadership:
    • Train and mentor staff on quality standards, processes, and best practices.
    • Act as a quality resource for cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and supply chain.
    • Lead weekly quality meetings.
  1. Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and customer requirements.
    • Prepare and present quality reports to management, highlighting key metrics and improvement initiatives.
  1. Quality Processes and Requirements:
    • Ensure compliance with Quality process (CSR’s, NCR’s, MRB, QA’s, SQN’s and SCAR’s, Continuous Improvement, FAI’s, etc.).
    • Ensure compliance with Quality Requirements (PPAP, PFMEA, ROHS, REACH, Conflict Materials, Dangerous Goods, Carbon Footprint).

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience), preferred but not required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years in a quality role preferably in an electromechanical or aerospace manufacturing environment.
    • Proven experience leading AS9100 and ISO 9001 audits.
  • Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in quality tools such as FMEA, SPC, and root cause analysis.
  • Certifications: CQE, CQA, or equivalent certifications are a plus.

90-Day Goals:

    • Quality Meetings (weekly),
    • Implement FAI Team,
    • CSR’s familiarization and ownership, AND
    • Internal audits / Product Audits – assist in preparation for external audits (May 2025).

 How will success be measured in this position:

    • Maintain AS9100 certification,
    • Improve FPY,
    • Meet deadlines for all requirements, AND
    • Complete all scheduled internal audits.
