Position Summary:

The Mechanical Design Engineer-fluid power requires the knowledge and ability to design and validate complex hydraulic equipment.  The design of new equipment to meet changing business needs along with redesign of existing equipment to increase reliability, safety, and quality.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Mechanical/Hydraulic design –  o Determine form, fit, function and specification of hydraulic and mechanical equipment and components to meet manufacturing requirements/needs (presses, mobile equipment, heat treat equipment, machine tools, etc.)

o    Research and develop new processes and equipment

o    Fluid Power circuit design (logic, system control, and hydraulic schematics) o Hydraulic and mechanical layout of systems/components (SolidWorks part & assembly modeling) o    Design and/or select fluid power components for machinery (hydraulic power units, manifolds, valving, piping, actuators, etc.)

o    Determine operating loads of equipment (hand calculations, spreadsheets, and measuring systems & tools) o          Size fluid power system and components for safety and reliability by performing comprehensive analysis

(hand calculations, spreadsheets, & Finite Element Analysis) o          Material selection for designed components (specifying manufacturing process, mechanical properties, etc.) o      Detail all component and assembly drawings for manufacturing (tolerance, fits, dimensional analysis, GD&T,

etc.)

o    Assist with quoting and procurement of components – put together all necessary documents required for manufacturing/assembly (bill of materials, hardware lists, budgets and costing, ROI, contract review, etc.)

o    Project Management - instruct outside contractors/vendors and internal personnel for timely assembly of hydraulic and mechanical designs.

o    Direct production personnel on proper usage of equipment and develop/instruct proper maintenance practices of equipment.

Troubleshoot complex fluid power and control systems

Reverse engineer of existing hydraulic/mechanical components – analyze the mode of failure, accurately measure the component, redesign (if necessary), and create blueprints.

Responsible for overseeing the startup of new and updated equipment.

Corporate position responsible for the hydraulic and mechanical design and reliability of equipment in all three plants (along with two joint venture plants).

Designs meet/exceed respective codes:  Analysis, validation, and due diligence is performed to ensure quality of design with (first and foremost) plant and personnel safety.

Support production and technical personnel during off-shift hours.

Qualifications:

       BS in Mechanical Engineering

Minimum 1-3 years of experience specialize in Fluid Power Systems

Knowledge of how hydraulic design/components impact the machine control system performance

Hands on individual with excellent troubleshooting skills

Exhibits a high level of mechanical aptitude and creativity

Proficient in blueprint reading, tolerances, material selection, and manufacturing processes

SolidWorks (Solid modeling) for parts, large assemblies, and drawings

Finite Element Analysis (Structural linear FEA)

       Strong skills in MS office

Excellent communication skills, organization, and detail oriented
