POSITION SUMMARYOur Award-Winning Client is in search of a highly skilled expert in the HVAC/plumbing domain. This role demands extensive hands-on experience with advanced HVAC systems and plumbing tasks. The Sr. Maintenance Journeyman will be expected to demonstrate independent judgment while effectively addressing complex challenges. The individual will adhere to safety practices to ensure the well-being of co-workers, the public, and Authority property. This position falls under the jurisdiction of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 542.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver expert maintenance support within the HVAC and plumbing sectors.
  • Conduct complex troubleshooting for HVAC and plumbing issues.
  • Lead various projects, providing insights on scope and budgeting.
  • Perform preventative maintenance for Authority assets and equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies around the clock at any Authority site.
  • Direct and oversee the work of assigned personnel as necessary.
  • Develop and manage HVAC/plumbing preventative maintenance protocols.
  • Ensure superior customer service for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge in HVAC or plumbing fields.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant Authority policies and procedures.
  • Awareness of applicable federal, state, and Authority safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with state laws concerning vehicle operation on public roads.
  • Adherence to all requirements of the Federal Drug & Alcohol Testing Program.
  • Capability to lead a work team, mentor staff, and provide on-the-job training.
  • Recognition as fully competent based on external accreditation and certification alongside licensing.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and repair intricate HVAC or plumbing systems.
  • Proficiency in procurement procedures.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
  • Competence in translating work orders into actionable plans.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry weights of up to 50 pounds over distances of at least 20 yards.
  • Capability to operate safely in hazardous environments with heavy equipment, at heights, on steep grades, and on uneven surfaces.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats, gloves, eyewear, and hearing protection.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions, including grasping, reaching, bending, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Availability for duty at varying hours, both day and night, to maintain continuous facility operations.
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication, including active listening skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to foster effective relationships with Authority personnel, customers, vendors, etc.

TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENTS

  • Maintenance tasks across landscapes, roads, airports, and bridges.
  • General building maintenance, including custodial duties.
  • HVAC and electrical systems maintenance.
  • Emergency response activities (e.g., snow removal).
  • Operation of heavy machinery.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant HVAC/plumbing experience; 10 years preferred.
  • Vocational training or completion of a federally approved plumbing/HVAC apprenticeship is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND CERTIFICATES

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Obtain Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within 6 months.
  • Hold a journeyperson certificate or a master electrician license in good standing from a recognized authority.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates must undergo a pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check.
  • Participation in direct deposit or payroll card program for bi-weekly pay is mandatory.
  • Individuals with a valid CDL must maintain a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate and comply with random drug and alcohol testing according to Federal and State regulations.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as necessary to ensure continuous facility operation.

Skills and Certifications (bold indicates required):

  • 7+ years of experience in the commercial HVAC/plumbing sector.
  • Completion of a federally approved plumbing/HVAC apprenticeship program.
  • HVAC Journeyman License.

Candidate Details:This mid-senior level position does not require management experience. A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Occasional travel may be necessary.
