Controls Engineer II

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer II to support all phases of controls projects, from research and design to installation, troubleshooting, and after-sales support. This role requires strong expertise in PLC programming, HMI development, electrical design, and system integration. The ideal candidate will have experience mentoring junior engineers and a proactive approach to problem-solving in industrial automation, material handling, or manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and troubleshoot AC/DC control systems and electrical circuits.
  • Perform PLC and HMI programming with advanced troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Lead and execute control system projects, including estimating, component selection, panel design, and network integration.
  • Develop functional test plans for system commissioning.
  • Create detailed electrical diagrams and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to ensure project success.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal teams, customers, and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), Computer Engineering (CECS), or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in PLC programming and control device networks.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD (AutoCAD E preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with UL508a, NEC, NFPA, and other electrical codes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to obtain airport security clearance, if required.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience with VFDs, Servos, Sensors, and Vision Systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Prior experience in material handling or industrial automation.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Office and field-based work with up to 50% travel.
  • Flexible schedule: Monday–Friday, 7 AM–4 PM or 8 AM–5 PM, with variations based on project needs.
  • Physical demands include prolonged sitting, repetitive typing, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
