A. Purpose and Scope

Engineering Firm specializing in the design and manufacturing of prefabricated steel pedestrian truss bridges. We are seeking a highly skilled Tekla Technician to lead our transition from 2D CAD drafting to 3D modeling using Tekla Structures, with integration into Trimble PowerFab.

This individual will begin by learning company’s current AutoCAD based drafting processes and contributing to 2D bridge plan production. After demonstrating proficiency, the Tekla Technician will take ownership of implementing a Tekla based workflow — including developing modeling templates, setting standards, and creating processes that align with fabrication requirements. Long-term, this role will continue modeling bridges for fabrication, maintaining Tekla standards, and training drafting personnel.

B. Qualifications

Education

  • 2-year drafting or technician degree (including Tekla training) preferred, but not required if Tekla proficiency can be demonstrated

Experience

  • Proficiency in Tekla Structures with proven experience implementing Tekla workflows
  • Familiarity with integrating Tekla with PowerFab and fabrication workflows
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Outlook, Teams, and Excel
  • Prior exposure to structural or bridge drafting preferred

Skills

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks without direct supervision
  • Self-motivated and reliable — especially critical for remote work scenarios
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and maintain high productivity
  • Ability to create and maintain custom templates and modeling standards
  • Willingness to learn from current workflows and collaborate with the team
  • Comfortable training and supporting drafting technicians

C. Responsibilities

Bridge Plan Development & CAD Drafting (Initial Phase)

  • Learn company’s existing 2D AutoCAD-based drafting process for steel truss bridges
  • Produce bridge layout and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements

Tekla Implementation & Standardization (After 4–6 Months)

  • Develop and document Tekla modeling workflows and templates for bridge modeling
  • Align Tekla outputs with PowerFab requirements and Wheeler’s fabrication processes
  • Collaborate with team to ensure modeling efficiency and consistency

Ongoing Modeling & Support

  • Model bridges in Tekla for fabrication and plan submittals
  • Maintain and improve Tekla templates and standard parts library
  • Train drafting staff on Tekla use and assist in troubleshooting issues

D. Work Arrangement

  • Preference for onsite role in Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • Remote applicants will be considered; initial 1–2 week onsite training is required and may be a condition of employment

E. Compensation

Salary
