Maderra Personnel is currently seeking qualified individuals for the position of Safety Advisor in Valentine Lake, NL.

Position Overview

We are seeking qualified Safety Personnel to join our team on a mining project in Newfoundland. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety standards, site-specific safety policies, and provincial/federal regulations. This role requires strong field presence, proactive hazard identification, and the ability to coach and engage the workforce in maintaining a safe work environment.

Schedule / Duration: approx. 3 months starting at construction kickoff TBD estimated mid to end oct for 2 weeks in 2 weeks out 1 per shift cross shifting

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with site safety policies, OH&S regulations, and company standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, hazard assessments, and audits of work areas, equipment, and practices.
  • Support supervisors and workers with job hazard analyses (JHAs), permits, and safe work procedures.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance on emergency response, including drills, evacuation procedures, and first aid coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and contractors to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Assist with implementation of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs, policies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including safety statistics, training records, and regulatory submissions.

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Previous experience in mining, heavy construction, or industrial safety (2–5 years preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Newfoundland Occupational Health & Safety regulations, Mines Act, and CSA standards.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certification required; additional safety certifications (e.g., Mine Rescue, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, H2S Alive) considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage workers at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accurate reporting.
  • Ability to work in a remote, fast-paced environment and adapt to changing conditions.
