Senior Mechanical Design Engineer 

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and analysis of complex electro-mechanical systems at the Pittsburgh facility. In this role, you'll spearhead technical innovation while mentoring junior team members and driving engineering excellence.

Your Impact

As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll optimize existing equipment and design new solutions that enhance efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. You'll serve as a technical leader, guiding small teams through the entire design lifecycle from concept to implementation.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and analysis of complex electro-mechanical components and systems
  • Conduct experiments, collect data, and interpret results with the ability to reconcile theoretical models with real-world outcomes
  • Coordinate comprehensive design solutions including documentation, reporting, and technical presentations
  • Design, build, and test new equipment and machinery to support program needs
  • Develop innovative solutions to technical engineering challenges
  • Provide technical leadership during design reviews and failure investigations
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively participate in their professional development

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (advanced degree preferred)
  • 7-10+ years of experience in manufacturing and design of engineered products
  • Hands-on experience with rotating equipment and machine designs (motors, pumps, generators, propulsors)
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, GD&T, CAD/CAE systems
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to create models, develop drawings, and lead trade studies and design reviews
  • Proven capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain DOD security clearance
