Energy & Natural Resources (Commodities) Associate Attorney

 

Location: Houston, TX

 

Our client, a prominent AmLaw 50 firm, is seeking a talented Mid-Level Associate Attorney to join their nationally-recognized Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group in Houston. This is an exciting opportunity for an associate to work at the intersection of commodity trading, energy transactions, and secured finance within one of the industry's most dynamic markets.

 

Candidate Profile:

  • JD from a top-tier law school with a strong academic record.

  • Active Bar Admission in Texas.

  • 4–6 years of substantive experience in natural gas and/or electricity transactions.

  • Experience negotiating and drafting power purchase agreements (PPAs) and International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) documentation.

  • Familiarity with secured transactions, including security agreements, intercreditor agreements, and joinder agreements.

  • Strong transactional drafting skills and the ability to manage complex deal structures.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational abilities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on the structuring and negotiation of physical and financial energy trading transactions, including electricity and natural gas.

  • Draft and negotiate PPAs, ISDAs, and related transactional documents.

  • Counsel clients on regulatory, risk management, and credit issues related to commodities trading.

  • Structure and execute secured transactions involving personal property as collateral.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including finance, regulatory, and project development attorneys.

  • Support clients in a broad range of commercial energy matters across the lifecycle of energy projects.

Compensation is highly competitive, with a base salary range of $310,000-$390,000, commensurate with experience.
